Family Reading Month - November 2009

November 1, 2009

Dear Setauket Families,

November Greetings and welcome to Setauket PTA Family Reading Month. We have planned many fun-filled and enriching activities. We hope you and your family can participate in some or all of these activities, either in school or in your own home.

In conjunction with the Scholastic Book Fair, this year’s theme is “A Passport to Reading.” Reading can take us to so many destinations, including the following worlds or genres: Fantasy, Adventure, the Animal Kingdom and Mystery. The cafeteria will be decorated featuring these four genres and you will each receive your own passport and reading log. Each week you will need to read a book/books in the featured genre and record your reading minutes. (Click here for primary grades list and here for intermediate grades list; they can also be found in the school library if needed.)

The class in each grade that logs the most minutes will receive a prize from Dr. Rullan. So do your class proud and read as much as you can! Please send in your reading log each Friday with your recorded reading minutes.

November reading events will also include an in-school production by the Bronx Zoo’s Wildlife Theater Group on Thursday, November 12th, featuring The Adventures of Captain Cocoa in the Rainforest and a few after-school activities. Please check the PTA website for more information on those programs. And don’t forget to come to Family Reading Night, Thursday, November 19th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Any questions or if you would like to help, contact Margaret Sobel at sobeletal@yahoo.com.

We hope that you will enjoy these activities. Together, we can reach our goal of raising a community of people who love to read!

Happy Reading!!! Tammy Colletti, Lisa Mattimoe, and Margaret Sobel (Family Reading Month co-chairs)
