How fortunate we are to have so many generous business and private business owners in our community. Even in this time of "conserve and budget cutbacks," the following companies and independent businesses donated their services, materials and expertise to the courtyard restoration at Setauket School:
Norse tree service, Docherty Tree service, Organically Green tree service, Kelly Brothers Landscaping, ACE hardware, BB&GG garden center and Home Depot.
Also, kudos to all the families who put in sweat equity and spent time on weekends and after school hours gardening, trimming, painting, pulling, planting and supplying the materials to make it all happen.
We truly would not have a sustainable courtyard with out your support and extremely generous donations. The students, parents and school administration of Setauket School extend their gratitude to each and everyone of you.
As for me, I am honored to have you as neighbors and friends.
Sincere Thanks,
Susan Blake

Basket Dinner Thank You
A warm “Thank You” to all who attended our 2010 Spring Basket Dinner. Hopefully you had a fun and enjoyable evening with your friends.
This event was a huge success and made possible by the support and generosity of families, teachers, staff and businesses. This effort is greatly appreciated. With this success, the PTA is able to fund Arts in Education programs and, therefore, enrich the lives of our children.
Best Regards,
Danielle Dunn

Setauket Teachers and Families -
The Setauket School Book Drive for South Bay Elementary school has been a novel success. Setauket’s students, teachers, and families have once again displayed their giving nature. Our drive collected well over 3,800 picture books, intermediate novels, science reading material, early reader books, etc…
The boxes and boxes of books were separated by our 5th and sixth graders, into genres, teaching material, and reading level for ease of distribution. These boxes were then brought to the South Bay Elementary School’s temporary location, a church in West Babylon. Mrs. Melvin and Mrs. Aviles took on that arduous transportation task.
On behalf of the Setauket Student Council, the PTA, and the TVTA – thank you for making the book drive an overwhelming success. Once again, it reminds us all that giving is a lifestyle, not an occasion.
Sincerely,
The Setauket Student Council

Setauket Teachers and Families –
As you may already be aware, a school in West
Babylon Long Island was ravaged by a fire last week. The school, South Bay Elementary,
lost everything. School has since
been taking place at a local church.
Items that the children and teachers need
immediately, and that we can provide, are books.
They need books for all ages - kindergarten all the way through 6th
grade. To help out our Long Island
neighbor the Student Council, TVTA and PTA will begin collecting books for the
children of South
Bay Elementary School.
If you and your family would like to help out
with this endeavor, just send your gently used books to school. There will be a box set up at the bus
entrance for all donations. The box
will be there for all of next week - March 1st – 5th.
Please search for all those books you have hidden
around your house, holding up your bed, cluttering your attic or acting as a
support beam. Put them to work and
donate them to a Long Island neighbor in need.
Giving isn’t an occasion, it’s a lifestyle.

Fall is a favorite time of year for the Setauket PTA -- We hope your families are happy and healthy as the school year is now in full swing.
Ghosts, goblins, witches, and monsters of all sorts beware! Halloween's not just fun and games. It's important to remind children of a few safety tips before they head out trick-or-treating.
- Children should always be with an adult.
- Make sure your trick-or-treaters are visible and that they have a flashlight.
- Remember to look both ways when crossing streets and stay on sidewalks.
- Inspect all candy before a child’s eats it. Look for tampering of packaging and don’t eat homemade treats.
Let's Fight Flu Together!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges you to take the following actions to protect yourself and others from influenza (the flu):
- Take time to get a flu vaccine.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people
The Setauket PTA Promotes Healthy Lifestyles in Your Family
Although getting a good education is critical to achieving success, there is another essential building block. Children need healthful food and adequate physical activity every day to reach their potential.
It’s simple: when kids eat nutritious foods and get enough physical activity, their bodies work better and their minds perform better. Healthy kids actually are better prepared to learn, and they miss fewer days of school. And, just as important, healthy kids are more likely to become healthy adults, increasing the possibility to avoid certain life-altering diseases later in life.
To learn more about what you can do, visit National PTA's website.

Welcome
Dear Parents:
Setauket Elementary School (SES) welcomes you to the 2009-2010 school year. We are all excited to start the year with new challenges and we look forward to your involvement.
The message of PTA is "Everychild.Onevoice." It is our approach to serving children - speaking as a unified voice for the education, safety, and well-being of every child at home and school and in our community.
SES is a school with many traditions, one being a very active and involved parent group. An important way in which parents stay connected at all levels is through membership in the SES PTA. Please take a moment and complete the enclosed membership form and return via backpack to the PTA Mailbox at Setauket School (mailing address: 134 Main St., Setauket, NY 11733).
The Setauket Elementary School PTA hosts many functions throughout the year to support and enrich every child’s learning experience. These special programs and opportunities include: Cultural Arts, Book-of-the-Month Club, Spring Basket Dinner, Multicultural Evening, and more.
In conjunction with our school's commitment to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home, all PTA notices will be posted on the PTA website as well as the District Parent Portal. We strongly encourage you to check both sites daily.
If you would like to sign up for periodic email reminders of meetings and important PTA information, please complete and submit the subscription form on our Mailing List page on SetauketPTA.com.
Please join us for our first PTA meeting of the new school year on Thursday, September 17th at 9:30 am in the school cafeteria.
Again, welcome to the new school year. The PTA Executive Board will be at your service this year and looking forward to your participation. Please let us know of your concerns or suggestions. We look forward to your ideas and involvement!
Sincerely,
Tracy Kraus-Bratone and Danielle Dunn
